Names
Date Issued 1985 (iso8601)
Abstract The information presented here comes from experiments conducted in farmers fields in the northern part of the state of Veracruz, Mexico, during the season 1985-B. The sole purpose of this material is to provide ClMMYT maize production research trainees with real examples for practice in the interpretation of data. In this cycle, the following three locations were planted in zero-tillage: Zapotalillo-Hernandez, Zaragoza-Reyes and La Reforma-Mendez. Two locations were planted in conventional tillage: Fco. Villa-Garcia and Rio Claro-Martinez. Planting was on time with excellent soil moisture. The rainfall between June 1st. and October 20, as measured at Zapotalillo-Hernandez was: May: 58mm, June: 161, July: 146, August: 50, September 168, and October (up to the 20th): 46, totalling 629mm. Heavy rains in July resulted in yield reductions due to denitrification at all locations, excert Rio Claro. Additionally, at Fco. Villa, periodic drought pre-flowering, caused further yield reductions, enhanced by shallow soil. Trial maps by locations and trial distribution by trainee groups, are presented in the following 8 pages.
