Abstract |
This publication is the initial effort to summarize selected meteorological data recorded at the four research stations of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) between 1973 and 1982. These four research sites were established within three years after CIMMYT was officially created in 1966. The sites selected were representative of several of the major e9ological areas found in the developing world, which CIMMYT is mandated to serve. By the end of 1972, the sites had been developed into well-managed research stations. An integral part of their development was the establishment of weather stations at each site. Initially, temperature and rainfall data were recorded. The types of data taken were expanded to include, at various times, radiation, wind run, and evaporation rates. Data summarization to date has been limited. This report includes only those variables for which long-term accurate records exist. The variables reported are: average temperature, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, rainfall and sunshine hours. Other meteorological parameters including pan evaporation, wind run, and solar radiation are available for varying periods. These additional data are available from; the CIMMYT experiment station head office. The data have been summarized in two ways. First, monthly summaries have been made to provide a rapid and traditional overview of the data at each station. Secondly a ten-day summary has been made to provide more detailed information for critical assessment of the environments at each station. |
