Description The Botanical Seed Inventory for Clonal Crop Breeding (CIPCROSS) is an open source software that supports activities in the greenhouse and laboratory of the potato breeder from CIP. It is available online and can be used for potato and other crops. It comprises two main tools: a) The Crossing Management Tool facilitates the barcode labeling of progenitors and crosses, storing the information in a database and generating automated reports. b) The Botanical Seed Inventory Tool facilitates the recording and accessing of information on the location of botanical seed in the storage facility, documentation of germination tests, updates on seed stocks, information about crosses and breeder‘s name. The system helps breeders develop, integrate and organize their information in a database, avoid typing mistakes and save work time (24 person-hours/14250 labels). Finally, all the information generated is saved in BioMart: a centralized data repository which facilitates access to the information with queries and filters for advanced search (See Figure 1). The users can download these tools through the page web of “The Global Trial Data Management System from CIP”.
