Description This guide is based on the results of a research project (Divakaran, 2011) conducted with the aid of the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) based in Nairobi, Kenya, and regional and national partners in Kenya. The research was feeding into a project entitled: ‘Creating an Evergreen Agriculture in Africa: Scaling-up Conservation Agriculture with Trees for Improved Livelihoods and Environmental Resilience in Eastern and Southern Africa’. ICRAF was the main implementing institution responsible for technical, administrative and financial management of the wider project and it was funded by IFAD. The overall objective of the wider project was to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Eastern and Southern Africa while sustaining the natural resource base by promoting the conservation agriculture and agroforestry practices.
