Description |
Oceans are a mammoth repository of biological resources. The diverse flora and fauna of the sea have been a source of protein and livelihood for millions of people, since time immemorial. The fascinating marine environment has been attracting researchers, owing to the rich biological wealth, which it is endowed with and continues to be a treasure trove of many unknown organisms, particularly in the deep. Besides food, the hunt for drugs is on and many organisms which were once thought to have no economic importance, have been found to offer many ‘wonder drugs’ to man-kind, including some of the anti-cancerous drugs. |
