Description In the northern Karnalaka Coast, oilsarcline and mackerel form the most imporrant pelagic
fish resouroes thus guiding the mnomic sustenance of fishermen of this region. The i n t d u i o n
of purse =in= in the mideventis, resulted in the tmsting d cratches of oilsardine and macke~l,
but also the exisle- of new resources like anchovies, carangids, catfishes,, etc. wme in the
operational ambit of this gear which m a i d untapped hitherto by t k traditional gears. Of late,
i t is fared that some of t h resources are king subjeded to fishing pressure which requim an
urpnt need for their assessment to make judicious approach as to their further exploita!ion. Studies
have indjated that there is an imperative need for restricting further increase in the fishing effwt,
s i m they indicated negative relation in tmm d effort. On the otha hand, anchovis, carangids and
catfishes manifested dired relation Wwem the abundam and effort expded showing Wter pmpb
for their further exploitation. The d i a l levels of input of &ad in unit days of fishing for oilsardine.,
