Description The ecology of Euphausiacea (Crustacea) of the continental shelf waters along the southwest
coast of India has been investigated by a study of the latitudinal and inshore-offshore movements of six
species in relation to the environmental parameters. The study showed a high degree of correlation
between the occurrence and abundance of euphausiids and the environment. While Pseudeuphausia
latifrons, Euphausia diomedeae, Nematoscelis gracilis and Stylocheiron armatum reacted negatively
to the upwelled waters, E. sibogae seemed to favour these waters. At the same time S. affine showed
a neutral reaction by presenting itself in the shelf waters throughout the year.
