Description |
The literature on the larval development in Euphausiacea of the Indian Ocean is very poor. The present paper deals in detail with the complete post-naupliar development of two species of the genus Euphausia; E. diomedeae Ortmann 1894 and E. distinguenda Hansen 1911. These are the two most abundant euphausiids in the tropical Indian Ocean. Three calyptopis and six furcilia stages were identified for E. diomeifeae; all of them being typical stages. But for E. distinguenda three calyptopis and twelve furcilia stages were identifiediants seen are also of which six furciliae are variants. The types of variants seen are also discussed.
