Description |
Pulsars are famous for their remarkably stable spin and average pulse profile shape. However, some pulsars have more than one average pulse profile shape. Their average pulse profile abruptly changes to a different shape and then, typically a few minutes later, reverts to the original shape. This is called mode changing. PSR J0738-4042 is one such pulsar. Studies of mode changing is essential to understand how pulsars emit radio pulses. We aim to investigate the mode changing properties of PSR J0738-4042 using the Parkes 64m radio telescope.
