Title P869 - Ultra-Deep searches for pulsars around Sgr A*

Subject Astronomical and Space Sciences not elsewhere classified

Description Pulsars, the remnants of violent stellar supernova explosions, are precise "cosmic clocks" that can be observed with radio telescopes like Parkes. The discovery of a pulsar orbiting a black hole would allow astronomers to directly measure the properties of a black hole for first time! Earth' s nearest supermassive black hole lies at the centre of the Milky Way and is about 4 million times the mass of the Sun. We aim to find pulsars going around this massive black hole and measure its properties!
