Title P942 - Searching for giant pulses from pulsars in the Large Magellanic Cloud

Subject Astronomical and Space Sciences not elsewhere classified

Description Pulsars are extremely compact stars that radiate periodic signals. The periodic signals from pulsars can be used to detect gravitational waves and study the interstellar medium. We are interested in searching for pulsars in other galaxies, such as the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), which is 158,200 light years away from us. Because pulsars in the LMC are distant, it is difficult to find them using conventional methods. We propose to search for giant pulses from these pulsars that are more than 10 times brighter than normal pulses. This will enable us to find new pulsars in the LMC and also understand the origin of fast radio bursts which are similar to giant pulses from distant pulsars.
