Title P943 - Profile, spectra and polarisation study of four newly discovered GHRSS pulsars

Subject Astronomical and Space Sciences not elsewhere classified

Description Pulsars are rapidly rotating neutron stars that emit a beam of radio waves from their magnetic poles. Their rate of rotation is very stable and so the pulses detected as they spin are like the ticks of an extremely precise clock. However the detailed location of radio emission processes of pulsars and the exact location and distribution of the pulse emitting regions are still shrouded with mystery. The emission from the pulsars are highly linearly polarised. The observed rotation of the plane of polarisation can be related to the geometry of the magnetic field lines above the pole.

Now we are observing four pulsars (discovered by us with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope in India) with the Parkes radio telecope to study their frequency evolution properties (e.g. observed pulse profile, strength of the pulsar) and polarisation properties. One of the pulsars we are studying is also detected in gamma-rays by us. We aim to probe the emission model of this source with the polarisation observations.
