Description |
We propose to observe a preliminary sample of three pulsars (B0826-34, B1055-52, and B1822-09) whose magnetospheric emission displays mode-changing. We aim to conduct long-track (6-h), (ultra)broadband, full-polarisation, single-pulse observations using the recently-installed Ultra-Wideband Low-frequency (UWL) receiver, which will provide high signal-to-noise single-pulse data due to its unprecedented frequency coverage. We will demonstrate the performance of the new receiver and further characterise the emission modes of the pulsars in great detail across a broad range in frequency (via, e.g., spectral indices, polarisation profile evolution, single-pulse statistics; these observations will be complemented by quasi-simultaneous MWA observations at ~180 MHz). Comparisons between each emission mode's characteristics will enable us to study the extent of the global transformation of pulsar magnetospheres with extremely high magnetic field strengths (~10^12 G), which is currently not well understood.
