Title P990 - A Follow-up Study of Stimulated Emission toward PSR B1641-45

Subject Astronomical and Space Sciences not elsewhere classified

Description Pulsar is a fast-spinning neutron star made by exploding massive stars (supernova). Stimulated emission is the mechanism that produces lasers, which are widely used in computers, cell phones, etc. Parkes discovered stimulated emission from a pulsar, showing that the flickering of lights from a ‘dead’ star can be amplified by interstellar hydroxyl (OH) gas. The same principle can be used to transmit interstellar communication by an alien civilization. We aim to further explore this principle in another simple, abundant, and important interstellar molecule, namely, Methylidyne (CH).
