Description The-Molluscan fisheries resources are constituted by the edible and non-edible species. The former, excluding
the cephalopods, comprise mainly the bivalves and the latter a variety of bivalves and gastropods- Development
of the edible resources is linked with popularisation and acceptability of the meat as an item of food and the
marketing of the meat or the products in the domestic and export sectors. The non-edible species contribute
greatly to Industrial raw material in the form of extensive sub fossil deposits in the estuarine, brackish water
and coastal areas. Other’s of this kind support a lucrative ornamental shell and cultured pearl trades.
