Abstract	The work of collecting, preserving, planting, and taking notes of the many maize strains is the product of the cooperative efforts of many individuals. A complete list of all who helped in one way or the other would be impartial. In regard to the establishment of the Bazilian Germ Plasm Bank and the collecting activities, acknowledgments have already been made elsewhere. This publication is a joint contribution from the Instituto de Genética, Escola Superior de Agricultura ´Luiz de Queiroz,´ Universidade de Sáo Paulo, Piracicaba, S.P., Brazil, and the Department of Statistics, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina.
