Description The primary survey was conducted in 2 stages. The first stage was a reconnaissance survey the purpose of which was to have a broader understanding of the Groundnut production and market conditions in Uganda. This involved consultative discussions with farmers, traders, extension workers who were working with the farmers. The inputs from these discussions were used to refine the objectives of the study, sampling procedures and survey instrument. During the second stage, the survey was conducted in 7 districts one each to represent the farming practices of Teso, Lango, Montane and West Nile and three to represent Banana-Cotton-Finger millet farming practice. A multi stage stratified sampling technique was used to sample households in each of the selected districts. In each district a full list of Groundnut growing sub counties was identified from which three sub counties was randomly selected. This was followed by the selection of 3 parishes from each of the each sub counties .Thus from these 9 parishes in each district 1 village was randomly selected, from each of these villages 15 households were surveyed providing a total of 135 households per district. Thus from 7 districts a total of 945 households were surveyed.
