Description |
Four decades of planned development of marine fisheries in India has raised the production level from about 0.5 to 1.6 million tonnes per annum. This growth in tonnage Is not commensurate with the effort that has been expended over the period in terms of planning, research and development. Stagnation in production has been witnessed during the last decade. The deep-sea fishing programme is yet to yield any tangible result by way of a quantum Jump in production, and its contribution has been marginal, not able to influence the overall production trend. However, marked changes have taken place in the pattern of exploitation and resources during the span of 40 years. |
