Description The objective of this manual is to help scientists and research students who pursue endocrinological investigations in fishes and shellfishes. In 1950s and early 1960s, scientific research methodologies
were limited to classical endocrinological techniques and
hormonal functions were mainly deduced from indirect evidence. But with the advent of more sophisticated and precise analytical techniques in recent years, it is possible now to show the exact site of synthesis of few of the hormones and isolate, purify and characterize
them and show their physiological specificity. While an
earlier manual has given basic research methodologies employed in invertebrate endocrinological investigations, the present one lays emphasis on modern analytical techniques currently employed in neuroendocrine research of vertebrates and invertebrates. The manual provides guidelines to scientists in selecting the appropriate
analytical techniques depending upon the material in hand.
