Description |
For rearing larval forms of marine prawns to stockable seed size the method developed at the CMFRI employed the cultures of a locally available diatom, Chaetoceros affinis and a euryhaline strain of rotifer Brachionus plicatilis. Survival rate of 70% has been obtained by use of these organisms as larval feed. From nauplius to postlarva an average survival rate of 70% is achieved although on numerous occasions survival rates as high as 95% have been recorded. At the average rate of 70%survival 8,40,000 postlarvae can be produced per month.
