Title Boring sponges of Zuari and Mandovi estuaries

Creator Thomas, P A

Subject Sponges

Description A study of the boring sponges of the Zuari and Mandovi estuaries
in relation to those in the open sea has revealed that the percentage of
incidence of Cliona celata Grant and C. vastifica Hancock in the marine
environment is rather negligible (3 and 2% respectively). But in the estuaries
of these two major rivers the incidence of C. vastifica is more (8%) and the
Oyster Crassostrea cucullata Born, formed in main target of this species.
The distribution of C. vastifica in both these estuaries is more or less similar
and occur throughout the year. But C. celata is found only during the
summer months, in both the estuaries.
