Description |
Methods for estimation and detection of aflatoxins in foods are reviewed, with emphasis on advantages and disadvantages of each technique. Aspects considered include: importance of analytical techniques for aflatoxins; principles of estimation; steps involved in detection methods (sampling, extraction, extract purification); and detection and estimation methods (including: TLC; spectrophotometry; comparison of visual, spectrophotometric and fluorodensitometric estimation of aflatoxins; HPLC; immunoassay; preparation of aflatoxin B1 oxime; conjugation of the oxime to protein by mixed anhydride; production of antibodies against aflatoxins; development of immunoassay protocol; radioimmunoassay; ELISA; dot binding of antigens to nitrocellulose; quick screening test; advantages and limitation of immunoassays).
