Description |
4 types of cans fabricated from 4 batches of indigenous electrolytic tin plate were investigated for their physico-chemical (grain structure of Sn coating, thickness of Sn coating, free Sn and alloy layer, porosity by thiocyanate test and Fe solution value) and electrochemical characteristics by polarisation value and model studies and by studies on shelf life of a few canned fruit and vegetable products (pineapple slices in sugar syrup, pineapple juice, mango juice, papaya slices in sugar syrup, potatoes in brine, beans in brine, ivy gourd (kundri) in brine). From the data given in tables and graphs, it has been shown that no significant differences could be observed between the 4 batches of Sn plates for their suitability for canning fruit and vegetable products as assessed by their physico-chemical characteristics, electrochemical behaviour and shelf-life studies.
