Description This data set has been created in a study assessing Famers' water management preferences using a common pool resource game closely framed to local conditions in 60 communities (840 participants) in Madhya Pradesh/India. The dataset includes all variables describing the experiment dynamics, most importantly the participants’ decisions in the experiment.

For understanding the data it is therefore important to understand the experiment (Experiment protocol is available on https://gamesforsustainability.org/practitioners/)

Project Description: The research has been carried out in the frame of the project “Advancing Knowledge on the Costs and Benefits of Sustainable Soil Fertility Management in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, India” funded by the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The objective of the study was to assess the impact of cropping systems and soil fertility management practices on select ecosystem services. It ran between August 2016 and December 2017.
The research has been supported by the CGIAR Research Program Policies, Institutions and Markets (PIM) under the Flagship 5 Activity “Experiment based institutional capacity development for enhancing sustainability, productivity and equity in semi-arid communities” The activity addressed the poor management of small scale surface water infrastructure in Indian rural communities. It studied social dilemmas related to the management of such structures and developed the institutional capacity of the actors managing water infrastructure.
