Description Saccharified cassava processing waste material, containing approx. 7% reducing sugars, was utilized for the production of ethanol using Saccharomyces cerevisiae FT-18. Acid-enzyme saccharification was controlled by enriching the process of fermentation with mineral salts and nitrogen compounds. Max. alcohol was produced when urea, MgSO4, K2HPO4 and Na2SO4 were used as mineral salts supply and when (NH4)2HPO4 was used as N source. By increasing the sugar concn. from 7.00 to 15.98% the concn. of alcohol produced was increased from 2.31 to 4.92% (w/w) and fermentation efficiency was increased by 75%. The slurry concn. of waste during hydrolysis was raised to 15% of reducing sugars in the hydrolysate to increase the yield.
