Description The total marine fish production in India has been estimated at an average of 1.37 million tones a year for the two year period of 1978-79. Roughly two thirds of this is contributed by the traditional small-scale fisheries and the rest by small and medium sized mechanised ‘boats using mostly bottom trawls and gill nets. Nearly 30% of the marine fish produced in India is landed along the east coast.
