Description |
The Indian Tiger prawn Penaeus monodon Fabricius 1798 is the largest species among the penaeids and is commonly known as “Jumbo Tiger Prawn” in the Indo-Pacific region. The identity of this species was the subject matter of protracted discussions among carcinologists for over a century. For a long time, there was confusion in the identification of this species from the closely related Penaeus semisulcatus de Haan. The designation of a neotype in place of the lost original type of Fabricius by Holthuis (1949) has finally resolved the century-long confusion of this species with P. semisulcatus de Haan. |
