The increasing demand for water is imposing huge pressure on the existing natural resources. Thus, there arises an urgent need to monitor and map the existing water bodies. This can be achieved by using the techniques of remote sensing coupled with GIS. The aim of our project is to assess the drinking water and irrigation water quality and also to detect changes in the area of natural ponds and lakes for the past 10 years using remote sensing images. The result shows that most of the Physico-chemical parameters in the water have similar spatial trends. Where the maximum concentration of these parameters was observed at the sub-surface water and the minimum concentration was observed at the surface water. The water quality in many regions is very poor for drinking and is unsuitable for irrigation and industry purposes. Nil |
