Abstract Monte carlo simulation method of evaluating composite power system reliability uses the concept of sampling random numbers, which simulate the random failure of components of the power system. It requires more number of samplings. to get required accuracy which in turn needs more computational efforts. Variance reduction techniques such as control variates, Importance sampling and antithetic variates will reduce the number of samplings and time of computation for the same accuracy as obtained by the traditional Monte carlo simulation. In this paper the IEEE RBTS-Test system is considered and the Monte carlo method and Antithetic variates technique are applied for composite system reliability evaluation and results are analysed.
