IASRI is a premier Institute for promoting and conducting research and training in Agricultural Statistics and Computer Application in Agriculture in the country. The functions and activities of the Institute have been re-defined from time to time in the past, In the context of changing international scenario, the Institute had to review its priorities and decided the orientation of research, teaching, training, training and consultancy efforts. This opportunity was utilised to produce a document on Perspective Plan for the next 20-25 years. Work on drafting a Perspective Plan began with the scientists of the Institute discussing and suggesting the direction in which the Institute has to orient itself. Based on this, the first draft Perspective Plan was prepared and discussed with two subject matter experts. It was redrafted in the light of their comments and copies of this draft were sent to DDG (Engg.) and ADG (ES&M) and was again revised in he light of ADG (ES&M) comments. This draft was discussed in Director's 'Mid-year-Review Week' -July 10-14, 1995 and again a new format was suggested for the perspective plan. It was also sent to 10 experts holding key positions/retired from key positions in the field of Agricultural Statistics in various Research Institutes and SAU's and their comments were also incorporated. This draft perspective plan was also sent to Chairman and members of Research Advisory Committee and was discussed in great details in the Research Advisory Committee Meeting held on 01.03.1996. The present form of the Perspective Plan takes into account the suggestions obtained as above.
