A survey was conducted in the three district of Mizoram state of the North East
India during 2011-12 to investigate the current status and future prospect of the organic
farming. On the basis of survey result, it was found that 80% farmers were practicing
organic farming in the three district of Mizoram. The productivity under organic farming
was 20.4% lower than the inorganic farming respectively whereas, net income from maize
and rice under traditional farming were at par with the organic farming. Besides these
farmers are also growing ginger, tomato, capsicum, red chillies, brinjal, potato, spinach,
cauliflower etc. and getting about double income of the traditional farming. There is huge
prospect of organic farming in the state and it is the requirement of the present scenario
to boost up the organic farming through technologies suitable for this region.
