The project was carried out in Rayachoty mandal, YSR Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The high resolution satellite data of Cartosat-1 merged IRS LISS IV data in conjunction with cadastral map (1:10000 scale) was used for inventorization of land resources. Six landform units identified and mapped and also land use land cover map prepared for the mandal. The soils of Rayachoty mandal (Total area of 23240.7 ha) were mapped in to 10 soil series and 53 mapping units. The major differentiating characteristics are soil slope, soil depth, texture, gravelliness and drainage. Land suitability evaluation done for major crops adopted in the mandal viz., rice, redgram, groundnut, sunflower, tomato, chillies, mango and coconut.
