An experiment was carried out during 2011
and 2012 at the Gangetic alluvial soils of West Bengal, India to assess four irrigation schedules (irrigation schedules at I1
=0.6 IW/CPE, I2
=0.9 IW/CPE, I3
=1.2
IW/CPE and I4
=rainfed) and three nutritional sources
(N1
= 100% inorganic, N2
= 75% inorganic + 25% FYM
and N3
= 50% inorganic + 25% FYM + 25%
Vermicompost) on growth and yield of turmeric (Curcuma longa L.). The results of the study showed that
significantly maximum growth viz., plant height, leaves
number, tillers number, leaf area index and dry matter
accumulation and yield attributes viz., number and
weight of turmeric rhizomes were observed due to the
main effects of irrigation sehedule at 0.9 IW: CPE (I2
),
nutrient schedule at 50% RDF + 25% FYM + 25%
Vermicompost (N3
) and their interactions (I2N3
) at
harvest stage in both the years. Similarly, the fresh
and cured rhizome yields almost followed the same
trend as in growth and yield parameters of crop. The
higher fresh (24.61 and 26.81 t ha–1) and cured (5.12
and 5.23 t ha–1) rhizome yield in both the years, respectively were registered under irrigation at IW: CPE
0.9 with 50% RDF + 25% FYM + 25% Vermicompost
(I2N3
).
