Lac is a natural resin secreted by an inset Kerria lacca (Kerr.), which thrives on the tender twigs of specific host trees viz., Palas (Butea monosperma), Ber (Zizyphus mauritiana), Kusum (Schleichera oleosa), Flemingia semialata, Ficus spp. etc. Raw lac is the source of three valuable, natural and renewable products i.e. resin, dye and wax.
