FOUR DISTRIBUTIONS VIZ, NORMAL, LOG NORMAL, GUMBEL EXTREME VALUE AND LOG PEARSON TYPE III HAVE BEEN FITTED TO THE OBSERVED VALUES OF ANNUAL MAXIMA OF DAILY RAINFALL AT VARIOUS PERCENT CHANCES. DAILY RAINFALL DATA FOR 26 YEARS( 1958-1983) RECORDED AT CHANDIGARH HAVE BEEN USED FOR THE ANALYSIS. THE STUDY SHOWS LOG PEARSON TYPE III DISTRIBUTION TO GIVE THE BEST FIT TO THE OBSERVED VALUES. LOG NORMAL, NORMAL AND GUMBEL EXTREME VALUES DISTRIBUTIONS , HOWEVER SHOW DIVERGENCE OF THE PROBABLE VALUES WITH THE OBSERVED ONES ONLY AT 80% CHANCES AND ABOVE. Not Available |
