AN ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO DEVELOP THE RESPONSE SURFACE EQUATION THROUGH THE USE OF COMBINATION OF THE TWO SOURCES OF NITROGEN ( LEUCAENA LEAVES AND FERTILIZER) FOR PREDICTING MAIZE YIELD UNDER RAINFED CONDITIONS OF SHIWALIK FOOTHILLS. ECONOMICS OF MANURING WAS WORKED OUT WITH THE ACTUAL YIELD DATA, VALUE OF YIELD AND THE COST OF INPUT . THE MAXIMUM PROFIT WAS OBTAINED THROUGH THE COMBINATION OF 40 kg N ha-1 THROUGH LEUCAENA LEAVES + 40 kg N ha-1 THROUGH FERTILIZER FOLLOWED BY THE TREATMENT 80kg N ha-1 THROUGH LEUCAENA LEAVES ALONE.
