The use of soil solution as a source of combined inorganic (Pi) and organic P (Po) for the study of competitive P sorption on two different soil types as well as the differences in buffer power of Pi and Po were studied. At a particular soil solution concentration, the buffer power for Pi was much higher (5 to 11 times) than the one for Po, that indicated more Po than expected to be in soil solution when an equal amount of Pi and Po was allowed to go for adsorption in soils. The results indicate the differences in the behaviour of P fractions in the soil at various soil solution concentrations and reflect that under P deficient condition Po concentration may be much higher in soil solution and important for plant nutrition.
