In India several programs were launched by the government as well as NGOs to up lift the tribal people. All such programs one way or other helped the tribal farmers for their survival. The health, education, economy, habitat and so on are the most important areas which need to be focused to provide livelihood security for tribal areas. Identification and assessment of these areas will help policy makers and extension functionaries to move in a right direction towards welfare of the tribal farmers. The purpose of the study was to develop a strategy for improving the livelihood security of tribal farmers in high altitude tribal zone of Karnataka state. ChamarajaNagara district was purposively selected for the study since it is having highest number of tribal farmers in Karnataka State.
