Mangiferin and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities in malformation resistant (Elaichi) and susceptible (Amrapali) mango genotypes were estimated during pre-blossoming and blossoming stages. Higher level of both the parameters was observed in Elaichi as compared to Amrapali. Electrophoretic analysis of the protein in cv. Elaichi, Amrapali, malformed (natural and induced vegetative and floral) buds were made by using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to investigate variation in polypeptide banding patterns. Malformed buds exhibited higher intensity and number of polypeptide bands as compared to healthy tissue. However, its cluster analysis using Euclidean distance clearly showed the resemblance in protein bands between normal flower of Amrapali and Elaichi. Lesser number of SDS protein bands in resistant cultivar Elaichi was also obtained. This indicates that during induction of malformation, additional protein/polypeptide are synthesized, which may be related with the expression of the disease syndromes. Not Available |
