The present study was undertaken to determine theantagonistic traits and potential of twelve osmotolerantagainst bacterial isolates the fungal pathogens viz.,Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. gladioli,Phytophthora capsici, Alternaria solani and Sclerotiumrolfsii. It was observed that all the isolates possessedvarying levels of one or more antagonistic traits, and wereable to inhibit the growth of the fungal pathogens. Amongsttw elve osm otoler ant ba cter ia l is olates B ac illusamyloliquefaciens P-72 showed consistent antagonistactivity against all five fungal pathogens. In dual cultureassays it inhibited the mycelial growth of Fusariumoxysporum (97.5%), Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. gladioli(97.0%), Phytophthora capsici (94.8%), Alternariasolani (97.0%)and Sclerotium rolfsii (97.5 %) while thevolatile compounds produced by this isolate, inhibited themycelial growth of Fusarium oxysporum (72.8%),F us ar ium ox ys po rum f. sp . glad io li (7 1. 8%),Phytop htho ra c ap sici (6 8. 5%), Alte rnar ia s olani(60.4%)and Sclerotium rolfsii (81.9%).
