The essential oils distilled from rhizomes and in vitro regenerated whole plants of Kaempferia galanga were analyzed by GC-MS. Thirty nine compounds were identified in both oils. The most abundant compounds present in the rhizome oil were two esters viz, ethyl p-methoxy cinnamate (46.8%) and ethyl cinnamate (24.8%), and a hydrocarbon n-pentadecane (5.8%). Essential oil of in vitro whole plants possessed higher percentage of ethyl p-methoxy cinnamate (51.2%) when compared to rhizome oil. Other prominent compounds present were 1,8–cineole, -gurjunene, -cadinene and -sinensal. Both the oils exhibited qualitative similarities with minor differences in the percentage of constituent compounds. Not Available |
