Low activity clay soils of north Karnataka were studied for their morphological, physical and chemical properties. Four pedons at Santur, Hosad, Valgalli and Hegake were dug open for the detailed study. These soils exhibited an advanced stage of weathering as evident from their deep profile. These soils exhibited better drainage, more redness and more amount of gravels. The soil structure varied from sub angular blocky to granular. The uniform distribution of ferruginous gravels was one of the striking feature s of these soils. They were acidic, poor in bases with low cation exchange capacity. Not Available |
