Description Not Available
Rice is a cereal grain and is widely consumed as a
staple food by about 50 per cent of the world
population. In India, 6.74 m ha area is affected by soil
salinity. Breeding of salt tolerant rice varieties is the
only economically viable option to tackle the situation
of salt affected soils in India. The variety CSR60 was
developed from the cross, IR4630-22-2-5-1-3/IR05N204
by the scientists working at ICAR-Central Soil Salinity
Research Institute, Karnal. The variety CSR60 was
tested in Alkaline and Inland Saline Testing Varietal
Trails (AL&ISTVT) which were conducted by the All
India Coordinated Research Project on rice located in
the campus of Indian Institute Rice Research (IIRR),
Hyderabad during the years 2015 to 2017 across the
salt affected locations of India. Based on the over all
performance in trials, CSR60 was identified for release
through Varietal Identification Committee (VIC) during
53rd Annual Rice Researchers Group Meeting, held on
14th April, 2018 at IIRR, Hyderabad for sodic soils of
Uttar Pradesh and Pondicherry. The variety was
subsequently released by the “Central Sub-Committee
on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of
Varieties for Agricultural Crops (CVRC)” and notified
by the Gazette Notification S.O. No. 6318(E) dated
on the 26th December, 2018.
