Aquaculture is one of the most important economic ventures in many countries across theworld. Over
the last few decades, there has been increased demand for seafood by consumers, which
hasnecessitated the development of novel strategies for enhanced production of aquaculture. However,
environmental and health challenges are increasingworldwide which are recognized as significant
constraints on aquaculture production andtrade. Indiscriminate use of chemicals in agriculture, and
industrial effluents adverselyaffect the aquaculture and related environment. Removing the chemical
contaminants, from the environment is a difficult task. Therefore, various strategies to remediate the
chemical contaminants are being looked into. In this context, bioremediation or the utilization of
microorganisms to clean up these contaminants from apolluted environment has appeared as a promising
strategy for removing and/or decreasing the effect of the contaminants. Recent advancements made
in this field of research are discussed in this chapter.
