The productivity of a pond depends upon its soil and water characteristics, where all the abiotic and biotic factors will converge. The water and soil quality variables affecting shrimp survival and growth are the determining factors for poor growth and disease outbreaks. Generally disease will not occur when the culture environment i.e., water and soil parameters are maintained at optimum levels, through adoption of better management practices (BMPs) including the physical, chemical and biological treatments. Hence it is essential to develop technologies and methodologies for the maintenance of optimum environmental conditions in the culture ponds. Not Available |
