Pengba is one of the emerging potential candidate species for freshwater aquaculture in India. An experimental infection study has been conducted to evaluate the susceptibility of the fish to the most common freshwater fish pathogen, Aeromonas hydrophila. The experiment revealed that the virulent strain of the bacteria can cause severe mortality in Pengba (Osteobrama belangert) fingerlings within 15 days post infection. The clinical manifestations of A. hydrophila in the fingerlings of infected fishes include lethargy, reddening and hemorrhages on the skin, tail rot and fin rot. Not Available |
