Naked neck gene line was developed at Project Directorate on Poultry during the year 1995-96 in broiler base. An experiment was conducted to introgress the naked neck gene (Na) into White Leghorn Layer population. For this purpose IWH White Leghorn was utilized. In F1 generation naked neck introgressed crosses compared to White Leghorn (IWH) pure line produced eggs which were heavier ranging 2-6g at 24,28 and 32WK of age. The Average egg production (EP 40WK) decreased by 8 eggs as compared to IWH pure line. In first back cross generation as compared to normal counter parts naked neck crosses matured 4 days earlier produced marginally heavier eggs but with no significant difference in egg production. In 2nd back cross generation naked neck as compared to normal counter parts matured one day late and produced 5.5 eggs more up to 40WK of age with marginal increase in egg weight. Results indicated that naked neck gene introgressed crosses had favourable effect on egg weight. As the no of back crosses increased there was also improvement in egg production in naked neck crosses as compared to normal counter parts. From Institute Fund(ICAR-DPR) |
