Fatty acid synthase (FASN) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in the de-novo pathway of fatty acid biosynthesis, which catalyzes synthesis of long chain fatty acids from malonyl-CoA and acetyl-CoA. The present study was designed to quantify the expression levels of fatty acid synthase gene in slow growing layer chicken population at different age groups. Quantitative real time PCR was performed to quantify the expression levels of target gene mRNA. As the age progresses, increasing trend has been noticed in the magnitude of expression from day old to day 42. Further, when compared to target gene expression at day old, the gene expression was up regulated by 1.76, 37.5 and 54.24 folds at day 14, 28 and 42, respectively. The expression levels of fatty acid synthase gene were increased gradually as the age progressed during juvenile stage in layer chicken population. Not Available |
