Changes in oxidative stress indices in buffalo calves following oral flubendiamide administration @ 0.024 mg/ kg/ day for 90 consecutive days was studied. In flubendiamide administered animals, the lipid peroxides level increased to become 49.38% higher, while glutathione level declined to become 29.32% lower than control on day 90. The plasma total antioxidant capacity declined to a significantly lower level (24.87%) than control. Increase in activities of catalase and glutathione-s-transferase was recorded in flubendiamide treated animals on day 60 onwards, but glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities revealed declining trend. On day 30 post-treatment, activities of various antioxidant enzymes returned close to pre-treatment level and were statistically comparable to corresponding levels in control group. Results indicated that chronic flubendiamide exposure induces oxidative stress that may play an important role in toxicopathology of this novel insecticide. Not Available |
