Raoultella ornithinolyitca is a Gram-negative bacillus belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae. We describe first isolation, identification and characterization of multiple drug resistant strain of Raoultella ornithinolytica isolated from Indian Major Carps, Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1822) fishes from Chhattisgarh state of India. We describe antimicrobial resistant pattern of the isolate which could facilitate the transfer of genetic material among the other species and also indicates significant public health hazards by presence of multidrug resistant isolates in food chain. The study illustrates the importance of recognizing uncommon emerging pathogen from aquatic ecosystem that can cause significant diseases in humans as an opportunistic pathogen. Not Available |
